Jesus Ortega is an aspiring realist artist focused on representing the world around him. From an early age he saw capturing a person’s likeness as the ultimate test of skill. Throughout his school life he was mostly self-taught when it came to art. It wasn’t until his college years that he began developing his skills through figure drawing and painting courses. His current work is inspired by a combination of master portrait artists from the past and impressionist work. Primarily working with oil paint and chalk pastel. Whether capturing the heightened colors in a portrait or replicating the realistic colors in a landscape, he focuses on using his medium of choice to its fullest extent. In recent years he has found an affinity for plein air painting and now spends the summer months painting the local scenery outdoors.
