Sunflower is a batik painting vat dyed in brown. I offset the "center" to create a more dramatic composition. I used a stipple style on the center of the flower. In truth, it drove me nuts, but I was amazed with the results. The corona around the center started with me painting the shapes, but it was't working. So once it was painted using yellow and a yellow-orange, I started to scrape the shapes out with an X-Acto knife. "Note this is not easy scrape too much you cut the cloth, too little and the dye not hold." The pedals and the background are pretty straight forward, as painting goes. It's the final step of dyeing that completes the painting. The brown dye creates the middle and darks that makes this a unique and alluring painting.
